Teach English Overseas!

Go Teach by Distance Delivery

For Canadians from coast-to-coast, when and where you choose.

INTRODUCTION

Go Teach regularly runs on-site workshops in several Canadian cities but regularly receives inquiries from locations beyond its reach. While interest in teaching English overseas exists right across Canada, access to information and instruction does not.

The Distance Workshop is Go Teach’s answer to Canada’s geography.  Beginning July 1, 2003, Canadians from Whitehorse to St. John’s will be able to benefit from Go Teach’s introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language through the distance delivery of the workshop.  Making use of postal correspondence, the Internet, video instruction and telephone consultation this “virtual workshop” is intended to provide an experience that is every bit as informative and empowering as existing on-site workshops.

BENEFITS

What the distance workshops lack in terms of on-site interaction (particularly with other participants), they make up in individualized attention and focus.  Distance participants also benefit from being able to work at their own pace, when and where they choose.

REQUIREMENTS

Internet Access (home preferred, public terminal acceptable)

Microsoft Messenger (preferred)

Telephone

VCR or DVD player (your choice)

HOW IT WORKS

Initial Consultation:  Every registrant is called to discuss the specifics of his/her situation prior to enrollment in the workshop.  Everyone is different and several variables impact Go Teach’s ability to help prospective participants achieve their goals.

Step 1:  Upon confirmation of registration and payment the participant will be mailed the standard Go Teach workshop manual and the Virtual Workshop video supplement via Priority Post.

Step 2:  The participant has up to four weeks from the date of mailing to book and undertake his/her first telephone session with a Go Teach advisor.  Prior to booking this time the participant MUST read the entire manual, watch the entire video and complete the confirmation assignment (to be submitted by email).

Step 3:  The first telephone consultation will focus on the video material, specifically the linguistic overview of English, the grammar primer and the introduction to lesson planning.

Step 4: The second telephone consultation will focus on the practicalities of going abroad.  Topics include the job search, application packages, teacher training options and travel considerations for Canadian teachers.

Follow-up:  Just as the on-site workshops don’t end with the culmination of the Saturday session, neither do the distance workshops finish with the second telephone consultation.  Following the completion and submission of the Participant Survey sheet, each participant is sent a “Next Steps” email and given access to GoTeachers, the secure portion of the www.goteach.ca website.

COST

The distance and on-site versions of the Go Teach workshop are priced identically at $150+GST.  Payment in full is required prior to shipping of correspondence materials.

GUARANTEE

The Distance Workshop is guaranteed!  As is the case with the on-site workshops, if you aren’t satisfied, you don’t pay.  In the case of the distance workshop, however, a processing fee of $25 will be deducted from all refunds upon return of all materials.

VALUE ADDED

Participants receive a Go Teach Certificate of Participation, Letters of Reference and tuition discounts from sponsoring TESOL programs worldwide.
